Importance of Communication in Business

Question: What is the Importance of communication in business? Answer: Introduction: Communication has a huge role to play in the process of business. A business is impossible to carry out without proper communication. Effective Communication is vitally essential for managers in the organization to perform the basic functions of management, i.e., Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Strategic business decisions in the organisation should conveyed with proper communication and they lead to big changes. So if proper communication does not lies in the organisation big failures are bound to happen. It acts as a foundation stone for planning. Implementation takes place after the managers communicate ideas to the workers. Organizing also requires effective communication with others about their job task. The importance of communication in business: 1. Communication induces motivation amongst the employees who work in the organisation. The employees feel a sense of collectiveness if the managers communicate to them on new ideas; help them with their difficulties with work. Communication brings out the solutions to many problems within as well as outside the organisation (Knight, 2011). 2. Communication helps the members of the organisation in socialising. All organisations are have various levels of hierarchy if proper communication channel does not exist the employees will not be able to perform with proper code of conduct. The managers should communicate about the code of behaviour to the employees in the organisation (Varoufakis Groutsis, 2010). 3. Communication with the vendors of the organisation is also very necessary. The new policy, new products, new schemes has to be communicated to the vendors. Vendors of an organization also take out the scenario of the organisation to the outside world (communication, 2015) 4. Communication also plays major role in developing the attitude of in any organisation. An employee who is well informed and updated of the company policy will always act in a wise manner than an employee who is less informed. Communication checks/ Communication Audit: In order to maintain a good communication process in the company a communication audit should be there. Employee involvement is necessary in the process. Question and answer sessions are to be and results to be communicated to the employees(Brown, 2011). These would help the management as well as the employees to maintain good relationship. More the communication, lesser will be the gaps. Building healthy relationships with the employees, vendors and the customers is the only way by which a business can do well ('Retaining good employees', 2011). Conclusion: Communication is always a two way process between the employees and the management as well as the employees need to understand its importance (Brown, 2011). Bettering the communication gaps induces relatedness and employees feel more responsible towards their work. Interpersonal relationships enhance in a better way. Scope of ambiguity vanishes when communication increases (Today et al., 2015). Without good business communication, the internal and external structure of a business can face numerous challenges that can ultimately lead to its demise.
